Dr. matthew karsten, DMD
OUR FOUNDER
Dr. Karsten is the Founder of Kids First Pediatric Dentistry. He was born and raised in the area, and it is his honor to serve the children growing up in the same community. His vision for the practice is to nurture and care for children’s oral health from infancy to adulthood.

Hannah
Hannah enjoys helping kids overcome their fear of the dentist as well as helping to create a comfortable atmosphere to make them happy to return for their next visit! When she is out of the office, she enjoys spending time with her niece and nephews, reading a good book, or going to see live music.
Natalie
Originating from Champaign, IL, Natalie bleeds orange and blue. Her pride and joy is her 5 year old dalmatian, Murphy. Do you have a family pet? Natalie would love hear about your animal companions.
Alexis
Always a cheerful and happy presence in the practice, Alexis loves to make crafts and people happy (if you spy cool Kids First gear, he probably made it). He is a summer baby, so it is his favorite season.
Ryan
Ryan who is passionate about college sports is waiting and ready to chat sports with your kiddos. All that he has learned with Kids First has inspired him to become a Physician Assistant now that he has his Bachelor of Science degree.
Vivi
Vivi loves the outdoors on warm days enjoying camping and sometimes fishing (as long as she doesn’t have to bait the line herself). Vivi is known to be a jokester around the office – so get ready to share some laughs with Vivi.

Our Director of Operations fell in love with the mission behind Kids First jumping at the opportunity to join the team in February of 2025. Inspired by her mother and grandmother, she brings with her a passion for people first leadership that will ensure that we are continuously enhancing our patient experience.
Brandi
Office Manager
Brandi is a loving mother of two and happy grandmother of three whose career has been focused around the development and care of children for over 25 years. She loves the opportunity to bring compassion to parents who want to make the right decision for their children.
Karolina
Insurance Manager
Karolina who is also a loving mother of two kiddos was promoted to the role of Insurance Manager in December 2024. After immigrating to the US from Poland, she has built a career with hard work and dedication to helping others.
Bertha
Front Desk Lead
Our Front Desk Lead, Bertha, is a proud mother of three and loves being a grandma. She has been with Kids First for eight years because she loves the care and compassion team members show each other and our patients on a daily basis.
Connor
Surgical Coordinator
Connor considers Kids First her second family and home away from home. She is a dog mom to 7 year old little Jaxson whom she adopted from the Anderson Animal Shelter in Elgin. Her favorite color is pink, so you will often find her sporting some pink glam.
