FIRST VISIT. MUST KNOW

At Kid’s First Pediatric Dentistry we understand that kids need to feel comfortable when they go somewhere new. We recognize that new things can sometimes create anxiety not only for the child, but for parents as well. It is our goal to create an environment that your kids can feel completely at home in.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends establishing a dental home for your child within 6 months of the first tooth coming in or by their first birthday. This age recommendation give us the privilege to get to know your child sooner and helps them feel more comfortable. From the moment you walk in, to the final goodbye smile, we make it our objective to have all our patients excited to come back. We are blessed to be your child’s pediatric dental home.

Prepare your child

Your child may be apprehensive about seeing a dentist for the first time, but our team works hard to create positive experiences early so your child develops good dental habits down the road.

To help children prepare for their first visit to the dentist, try the following four approaches:

    1. Get your child used to dental care by regularly cleaning your child’s teeth using a soft bristled brush to remove plaque and stimulate the gums. If you are not yet doing this, use a smear of fluoride toothpaste morning and night.
    2. Start preparing your one-year-old by taking time every day to look inside his or her mouth. Talk about teeth generally and keep track of how many teeth there are. Make this a fun time by using a mirror and pointing out how sparkly teeth are after they are cleaned.
    3. Purchase a couple of books about dentist visits for a child between the ages of two and three. Many of the popular cartoon characters have book series or videos that address the developmental milestones a child will encounter. Visit our tooth library!
    4. Take time to talk about these treatments with your children so they always know what to expect. Routine check-ups are scheduled every six months to maintain proper dental health.

Additionally, you can save yourself hassle and stress by downloading and filling out our Patient Forms before your child’s first visit.

PREPARE YOURSELF

At the first visit, we suggest you allow your child to accompany our staff through the dental experience. We can usually establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Although, we do understand that all children are different. We promise to work with parents to create the best visit outcome as possible. Our main goal is to gain your child’s confidence and overcome apprehension. However, if you choose to, you are more than welcome to accompany your child to the hygiene bay for their dental cleaning. We pride ourselves on making each appointment end on a positive note. We can’t wait to meet you!

Patient forms

Our patient portal is an amazing service that we offer to our patients to help streamline the dental registration process. Through this portal, our staff can better know you and your child’s needs to better help. If you have any questions about portal, please contact us.
